Goecha La is perched at 5000 mts, opposite the eastern face of m. Kanchenjungha, one of the most magnificient peaks of the Himalayas. This journey takes you through Sikkim, to Yuksom, and then to Kalimpong, which is a beautiful hill station, frozen in time, in it's British era glory. Your journey starts from Kolkata. Much should not be said about this metropolitan here , as your eyes are set on the serene and majestic beauty of the Himlayas. Leave it to a business trip to find out about Kolkata. Darjeeling is your next stop. It is well connected to Kolkata by road, air and rail. Its at distance of 651 kms. From Darjeeling travel to Gantok by road, which is roughly 91 kms away. From Gantok, make your way to Kalimpong, and enroute visit the Rumtek Monastry. Over night halt at kalimpong. Next morning, start for Yuksom. The journey takes 6 to 8 hours depending upon the weather and the road conditions. Yuksom is well known for its scenic beauty and is well known centre for Buddhism in these parts.From Yuksom starts the trekking segment of the journey. Trek to Bakhim, which is fmous for its orchids. The trek follows the Rathang river gorge through dense jungle, and the entire path is absolutely breath taking. From Bakhim, trek to Dzongri. Take a day to walk at a leisure space. A slow space assures good acclimatization at these altitudes. The path is flanked by Rhododendrons and berry shrubs, and is home to the ever elusive Red Panda. Along the way the magnificient massif of the Kanchenjungha lies in front of you. 'Gilded at dawn, ablaze at dusk'....is the best possible way to describe the majestic beauty of this peak. Next day trek to Thangsing, from where make your way to Samati lake. Its a leisure stroll with the majestic Padim towering over you. Samati lake is the most vivid hue of turquoise your eyes have ever seen and its shores is a great place for night camp halt. Next day prepare yourself for the 'once in a lifetime' experience that Goechala is. Goechala is also known as the Frozen lake. Its a day long excursion, and by sunset come back to Thangsing. From Thangsing, trek to Tsoka, another regular trekking halt in these parts, and then walk to Yuksom. This brings you down to the Prek chu river. This concludes the trekking segment of the journey. Make your way to Pemayangtse by road and spend your day leisuring around town. Pemayangtse boasts of Buddhist Monastry, dated 1716, one of the finest and the second oldest of Sikkim. From Pemayangtse drive down to Darjeeling which is roughly 5 hours and hence conclude your Himalayan Getaway
