Kemmengundi, karnataka
Located in the Chikmagalur district, Mullyangiri peak stands tall at around 6400 ft. and is part of the Babu Budangiri Range/Hills (B.B. Hills) and is the tallest peak in Karnataka. The Babu Budangiri range steaks across the Chikmagalur district and starts very close and to the east of the small little town of Chikmagalur and extends northwards till Kemmangundi. There are KSRTC buses from Bangalore to Tarikere and Chikmagalur. (Tarikere is connected by trains too). Kemmangundi is best reached from Tarikere . For a trek to the Mullyangiri peak, Chikmagalur is a more convenient and closer location and there are frequent buses that take you to the start of the trek (called Sarpa Dhari). Chikmagalur is around 5 hours from Bangalore and Tarikere is around 5.5 hours from Bangalore. Kemmangundi (4700 ft.) is a quaint hill station and hosts a couple of water falls (Hebbe Falls, Shanthi Falls). Though a tourist spot, unexplored trails and forests are still rampant, and it hasn’t yet been invaded by the din of city life which seems to follow all city dwellers, where ever they go. Kemmangundi is a place where you can simply enjoy unwinding and doing nothing. Or if you are a little adventurous, you can stretch your legs and breathe in a lungful of fresh mountain air while you trek through winding hilly paths. The route to Shanthi Falls is a short 1 km trek while the Hebbe Falls make for an 8 kms trek. Hebbe falls is a 250 mtr high in two stages, Dodda hebbe (big fall) and Chikka hebbe (small falls). Rose garden and the Z-point are the other attractions here. Z-point, the highest peak, offers the full view of the Baba Budangiri ranges and the sight is truly spectacular at sunset. Kemmengundi is a lovely getaway for any nature lover. It takes you far away from the din of city life and yet it can be easily fitted into a weekend and provide the perfect weekend break.
