The Nanda Devi National Park is one of the most spectacular wilderness areas in the Himalayas and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1988. It is dominated by Nanda Devi, which rises over 7,816 m. Nanda Devi needs no introduction. The second highest peak in the Indian Himalayas and touted by many as one of the most beautiful peaks in the world. No humans live in the park, which has remained more or less intact because of its inaccessibility. It is the habitat of several endangered mammals, especially the snow leopard, Himalayan musk deer and Bharal. Nanda Devi area has some of the most unique high altitude flora and fauna in the world. The spectacular views, sylvan environment, and richness of biosphere make it quite different from the other wildlife sanctuaries of India.
This is a trans-Himalayan trek in the heart of Kumaon Himalayas. The trek is through the Jauher valley the center of ancient Indo Tibetan trade route. Once upon a time this was one of the most important commercial center with a throbbing civilization influenced by the Tibetan culture in so many ways.
