The world-renowned Valley of Flowers is situated in the upper expanses of Bhyundar Ganga in the far interior of Garwhal Himalayas. It's altitude ranges from 3,250 mts. to 6,750 msl. The valley is 10 km long and 2 km wide and is spread over an area of 87.5 Sq. kms. In 1931, Frank Smyth a British mountaineer and botanist lost his way on his return from Mt. Kamet Expedition and reached here. He was overwhelmed by its enchanting beauty and named it as “Valley of Flowers". Almost 300 species of wild flowers blossom here naturally. River Pushpavati flows through the valley. many waterfalls found here enhance the beauty of the valley.
It holds an important place in Indian Hindu Mythology too. A common belief is that Lakshmana, the younger brother of Lord Rama has meditated on the banks of Lokpal Lake (Hemkund). The 'sanjeewani buti' by virtue of which Lord Lakshmana was brought to life after he was badly wounded by Meghnath (the son of Ravana) was believed to be found here. apart from that Famous Sikh Pilgrimage Centre "Hemkund Sahib" is lies just by the side of Valley of Flowers. by combining Famous Pilgrimage centre Badrinath and further holy view of Mystic river Saraswati, Enchanting Vasudhara falls "Valley of Flowers Trek" is truely an unforgettable Total Experince.
