The picturesque Valley of Sunderdhunga, is a less trodden trial in the western Kumaon region of Uttaranchal Himalaya. In Kumaoni dialect, the word Sunderdhunga means “Valley of beautiful stones”.One glance at this valley brings out the sheer appropriateness of this descriptive name! Perched at an altitude of 14,500ft, surrounded by snow capped peaks, scattered in a semi circle is the crystal clear lake of Devi Kund (the abode of the Goddess). It is spectacular sight to behold!. The path itself is Kaleidioscopic journey of variety of wild flowers, alluring waterfalls and enigmatic mountains viz., Maiktoli,Mrigthuni,Nandakot, Simsaga,Panwali Dwar - known as cream roll by locals,Bhanoti,Bailjuri. These mountains are seen so clearly from here that it looks like you can reach out and touch them as well. The sheer proximity to nature is truly exhilarating.Camping on the green thatch overlooking the valley and being surrounded by pine trees is an unique experience in itself. Excellent views of Sunderdhunga, Pindari and Khafni valleys are also a treat for the eyes.
