Hogenikkal - Naaga Malai - Kiliyur falls Trek

Overview

A route within a reign of Veerappan's footprints, from Hogenikkal the edges where Cauvery rivers bids goodbye to her motherland Karnataka creating a last impression with a magnificient water falls. Rocky and gushing water makes it a right place to have fun and start our trek. We eventually reach Gopinatham and from here passing by a beautiful lake resting by the sides of huge Navilu betta, a hill which has rocks studded as feathers of a dancing peacock. We then enter into the thick patch of MM hills ranges towards the sacred place and a trek till there brings to ones sight good flora and not to miss elephabts, boars, porquepines, Macaques, Giant squirrel, leopards, if we are lucky enough tigers too. And if one is a birder, there might be a demand for another day extension on our trek, such is an ambiance of birds right from the Gopinatham trek through Palar. Naaga malai is a peak that rests within itself the Lord of MM hills and uniquely slit rocks that appear as Shivaling with the serpent around his neck. And then to continue till Palar, no wonder wilderness again! We then reach to Yercaud from there for a short visit to Kiliyur falls, The waters overflowing the Yercaud Lake fall 300 feet into the Kiliyur Valley. The falls is located in a remote jungle area and there is no road. There is a sign that says the walk is 2.5 km. from the road on a rough path. It is a breathtaking sight once the falls is reached.
