Bali Pass Trek
An old trekking route from the tons river valley connecting to the Yamuna river valley. It continues to attract trekkers during the monsoon season when the snow melts and the pass is approachable from both sides. The pass is more approachable from the Har-ki-dun valley as the gradient is small and gives good time for the trekkers to acclimatize to the altitude. The trek starts from Sankri and passes through the Govind National Park, which is famous for its wildflowers. It also gives you an opportunity to visit the sacred lake at Ruinsara on the way and to explore the less-traveled path over Yamunotri pass to Yamunotri temple. The meadows near the lake are an ideal place to rest and explore the nearby peaks and passes. Another highlight of this trek is that it gives you the experience of camping above 4000m. The area is surrounded by Banderpoonch range and some of the famous peaks are kalanag, banderpoonch west, and Ruinsara. This region was made popular by Jack Gibson, a teacher at the Doon school in the late 1940's. The surrounding peaks and glaciers in the Swargarohini Range and Banderpoonch range are a mountaineer's delight.
Duration : 9 Days / 8 nights
Day 01 : DEHRADUN to SANKRI (1920m) - 210 km (7hrs)
The drive from haridwar to Sankri passes through the town of mussorie and the villages of nainbagh, damta, naugaon, purola, mori and netwar. We enter the forest (Govind National Park) after Netwar and the final 20km are through the forest. The drive to Sankri is very beautiful, past pine and deodar forest.Overnight in campsite at Gaengad 2 kms from sankri
Day 02 : SANKRI (1920m) to SEEMA (2560m)via TALUKA (1800m) - 12km (4hrs)
There is a motorable road connecting Sankri to taluka, but the walk through the forest is also delightful. However the path is a bit tricky and you may face blocks. Taluka is a small village with some shops, dhabas and a GMVN hotel. We cross taluka and continue along the true left of the river. It is a lovely walk along the true left of the river, passing through forests, apple orchards and fields. There are many small tea shops on the way. The town of Seema has many dhabas and a GMVN hotel. We campalongside the river or on the open grounds near the village.
Day 03 : SEEMA (2560m) TO ROILTIA or WATERFALL-CAMP(2900m) - 4 km (4hrs)
Continue along the true right of the valley along the tons river. The trail ascends through the fields and climbs high above the confluence of the tons and Ruinsara gad. After crossing the meadow of Devsu Bugyal we reach roiltia. With the village of Osla & Puoni in front and the waterfall nearby this is a perfect place to camp at night.
Day 04 : ROILTIA TO RUINSARA LAKE (3350m) - 9km (5hrs)
We ascend into the Ruinsara valley. There is a stark difference in the vegetation with pine and fir giving way to birch and rhododendron. Ruinsara is a lovely lake surrounded by meadows and rhododendron bushes. It is considered sacred by the locals. The walk through the forests is beautiful, with Kalanag (6387) visible straight ahead in the valley. Overnight in camps near the lake.
Day 05 : REST DAY AT RUINSARA
Today we rest near the lake and spent the day exploring the nearby glaciers and valleys. This will help us to acclimatize before the next day's climb to the pass. We reach kyarkoti which are the base camp for black peak (kalanag) and dumdar kandi pass. By evening we are back at the camp.
Day 06 : RUINSARA LAKE TO GODARI (4100m) - 4km (5hrs)
We start the day early so as to reach before afternoon. We camp below the pass along the glacial moraine. This is one of the best locations for a camp with the valley below and the pass behind you. Camping at this altitude is a new experience which very few treks offer.
Day 07: GODARI (4100m) TO UPPER DHAMNI (4000m) VIA BALI PASS (4800m) - 15km (7hrs)
We start very early today. The trail heads down south, over the ridge. It is a fairly short but steep climb up to the Bali pass on the southern ridge. A lot of glacial scree will be encountered here. We reach the top of the pass by 8am. You get a gorgeous view of various peaks from here especially of the Panchachuli peaks on a clear day. From the pass, we descend down into the alpine zone and reach the camping grounds of upper dhamni. This place has water nearby.
Day 08 : UPPER DHAMNI (4000m) TO YAMUNOTRI TO HANUMANCHATTI (2400m)
We descend to the forested trail leading to Yamunotri. After a quick visit to the famous shrine of Yamunotri, we make our way down the conventional pilgrim trail to hanuman chatti. Overnight in guesthouses in Yamunotri or in Hanuman Chatti.
Day 09 : YAMUNOTRI OR HANUMAN CHATTI TO DEHRADUN 210km (7hrs)

Q 1. How fit one need to be to do a trek to Everest Base camp ?
A : My answer is that you should be reasonably fit and functionally fit, without any ailments such as heart disease/lung and Asthmatic. Having a minimal experience of walking 6-7 days for 5- 6 hours a day on uneven terrain without being tired. If you are huffing and puffing to climb the stairs of a multi storey building then you should get fit. Kids of Age 6 and senior citizens of Age 70 have completed this trek Successfully. If you allow enough time for Acclimatization and keeping yourself well nourished and hydrated, trek to Everest Base camp will be really enjoyable. It is evident that you are visiting to the base of worlds highest peak, it would be really challenging. Trekking through steep ascents, walking on moraines, rocky trails is hard and worthwhile.!. The sheer challenge is that you will be at a high altitude, where sheer breathing is a task. Do breathing exercises regularly and pranayama inhale and exhale exercises.
Q 2. Can we spend night at Base Camp in tent ?
A : Camping for groups or individuals not summiting Everest peak in not allowed at the Base. Special permissions for same is required. Hence Organised trekking groups camp at Gorakshep, which is an hours walk away from campsite. Moreover the campsite is just a huge patch of Glacier moraine marked with thank as or prayer flags. During the climbing season it is reserved for Expeditions only.
Q 3. What about drinking water on the trail during Everest Base camp Trek ?
A : When you are in plains or gaining altitudes, essentially you need to consume 5-6 litres of fluid in the form of beverages such as tea , Coffee , soup and water. When it comes to drinking water you have to basically refill bottles, ask for boiled hot water or buy a mineral water bottle. The recommend to refill water bottle which is less harmful for eco system. However FYI at Lukla the bottle costs 30 per litre in IC and may go upto 250 per litre depending on altitude. Universal solvent water on heating boils at a lesser temperature than at sea level. While water starts to boil at just 86 deg Celsius, might not kill bacteria Water purifying tablets are available in Kathmandu. Purification sticks are available on online stores.
Q 4. Do Kathmandu – Lukla – Kathmandu flights get delayed often ?
A : To be Honest the weather forest at Lukla are hardly true. They show a long list of claims which turn out to be inaccurate. If you compare reports from different weather stations, each will provide different forecast. So don’t fear about reports. More reliable and accurate predictions are given by guides and porters by merely looking at sky. Flights get cancelled, it is mostly because of wind, thermals and poor visibility factors. It is one of worlds best airstrip and landing you experience of your life time. While booking tickets please insist agent to book tickets on LHS of cockpit.
Q 5. Is Network available on the trail during trek to base camp ?. Is there Wi-Fi in Tea Houses ?. How to charge our electronic gadgets or devices?
A : If you have enabled International roaming on existing SIM card, you will likely to have connectivity along the trek. But I suggest you to buy a local SIM N- cell from Thamel market in Katmandu which offers the best connectivity along the trek. N-Cell offers 2 G -3 G services as well. Neverthless , I highly recommend to be out of reach and communicate with mother nature. Everest link provides Wifi all along trail. Usually available at all places of stay. Cost of wifi also varies from 100 IC to 500 IC till Gorakshep. You can charge you devices at place where you stay. Don’t forget to carry chargers and Multi pin plugs with you. However charging cost will vary from 100 IC to 500 IC accordingly depending on altitude.
Q 6. How to be out of danger or overcome Altitude Sickness during Everest Base camp trek ?
A : Consume lot of fluids, Say no to smoking , caffeine , Alcohol during the Everest base trek at least a week before the commencement of trek.
Fluid intake should be minimal 4-5 litres per day. One is prone to dehydrate faster. Before you realize you get symptoms of mild headache. Headache may be due to cold also. It is a more of mental game. Dont bank on assumptions and follow the instructions.
One step One breath – It is not a race. There is no trophy waiting for you.! .Walk slow admiring the beauty around you. Try to identify snow clad peaks on the trail. Be fortunate to be there and know the wonders of nature..!
Start early and rest frequently. Maintain a pace to walk.
Try to acclimatize naturally and say NO TO DIAMOX tablets. If you have allergic to sulpha drugs it may have serious effect on your body.

Don't wear ear plugs or listen to music while you trek. Enjoy the music of mother nature..!

You will be on track and guide porters will assist you all times. The guide from Sherpa community have immense knowledge and will assist you all times. There are few suspension bridges on the trail to connect gorges and are sturdy. Cross it fearlessly. Though it swings don’t worry on the sturdiness of bridges.!

As temperatures rise, many people retreat to mountain trails to escape the heat and enjoy time with nature. Hiking can be a challenging activity and requires a positive attitude and determined frame of mind.
This form of exercise strengthens the muscles, improves heart health and boosts mood. However, hiking can become a dangerous and miserable
experience if you are not prepared for conditions. Consult a doctor to ensure you're healthy enough to hike.

OOty of Karnataka
A green patch of forest situated at 3400m above sea level, in the rocky region of Chitradurga - Popularly known as a 7 hill fort in history is a place called Jogimatti. Amidst prevailing heat wave and perennial drought, the green cover prevailing at the edge of the city has created a climate that resembles Ooty. Hence, the region is also called as ‘OOty of Central Karnataka’. Presence of heavy breeze, misty mountains and greenery are attracting the people from far away places. It is very clear that the forest got its name from a saint called ‘Jogi’, who was known for his social services, and a natural cave that houses a Shiva Linga and idols of Veerbhadra and Basavanna. Jogimatti is home for rare animals, including leopards and sloth bear that are on the verge of extinction, and the plants with medicinal value. In the midst of the forest, there is a waterfall called ‘Himavad Kedara’ that rejuvenates the visitor. Jogimatti is a trekkers delight and must see the place for nature lovers in the pristine state.

Makali Day Trek
Makalidurga is a perfect weekend destination from Bangalore as it is only 60 kms on the outskirts of the metropolitan city. Situated at an altitude of 4,430ft. It is a picturesque hill surrounded by a scenic lake which appears to be in the shape of South American continent. The fort at the summit has an old temple of Shiva with Nandi and in legend Markandeya Rishi performed penance here. There lies a fort atop the Makalidurga hill and a railway track follows just at the base of the hill which makes the trek route highly scenic. The ideal way for all trekkers to start the trek is from Makalidurga Railway station which adds a vintage style to the trekking activity. The whole trail is covered by dense grassland which grows so tall that at times it hides the trail leading up to the hill. Makalidurga hill is famous for spectacular views of sunrise and sunsets. The area of the Hill top is seen to be divided into three parts - the center where in a Shiva temple is located, Western side from where the beautiful lake can be observed and lastly the eastern side from where one can see the beauty of the unveiled sun.

In the Abode of Devi
Annapurna base camp trek is famous for trekkers. The principal peaks of the western portion of the great Annapurna Himal, including Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Fang, Annapurna, Ganagapurna, Annapurna 3 and Machhapuchhare, are arranged almost precisely in a circle about 10 miles in diameter with a deep glacier-covered amphitheater at the center. From this glacier basin, known as the Annapurna Sanctuary, the Modi Khola knifes its way south in a narrow gorge fully 12,000 ft. deep. Further south, the gorge opens up into a wide and fertile valley, the domain of the Gurungs. The middle and upper portions of Modi Khola offer some of the best short trekking routes in Nepal, and the valley is located so that these treks can be easily combined with treks into the Kali Gandaki region to the west.
In spite of the great heights of the surrounding peaks and ice walls, the valley floor between 12,000 and 14,000 ft. can provide comfortable camping spots in good weather.
